MAIN FEATURES

Basikit includes a number of utility programs (outlined below) to speed your software development process. Most of these programs can be invoked by a menu selection from within Basikit, and they all may be executed from the DOS command line.

Edit a RAM BASIC program in the Micro Convert a labeled to a numbered line BASIC program Remove excess spaces from a BASIC program Remove all spaces from a BASIC program List and file a RAM or ROMsim program Download and file RAM or ROMsim ASCII hex code Upload RAM code to ROMsim and/or initialize ROMsim Change serial port communication defaults

CONVERT: With your text editor, write BASIC code in modular format with symbolic labels and as many comments as you wish. The powerful CONVERT program substitutes line numbers for your labels and generates a listing of the documented, numbered line program. An additional output file contains run code, stripped of all comments and extra spaces. CONVERT checks for syntax errors, line length, and misuse of reserved words. Internal inconsistencies, label duplicates and missing labels are flagged. CONVERT also renumbers programs.

VARLIST: This program can analyze your BASIC source file and provide the following information.

An alphabetic list of all variables with the number of times each is used.
An alphabetic list of all labels with the location of the label definition.
An alphabetic cross-reference of all label calls in your program.
A listing of memory usage by your program, broken down into strings, dimensioned variables, and scalar variables.
A listing of illegal variable names which contain embedded reserved words.
A listing of variable names which BASIC will not treat as unique names.

VARNAME: VARNAME has three primary objectives.

Replace variable names which contain embedded reserved words.
Replace non-unique variable names with unique ones.
Reduce all variable names to 2 or 3 characters (reduces program size).

MAKEMOD: This program converts old numbered line programs to modular, labeled programs.

MAKTOKEN: MAKTOKEN converts a BASIC source file to ASCII Hex format for much faster BASIC program uploading.

HEXTOBIN: Convert a file containing ASCII Hex code to a binary file.

BINTOHEX: Convert a binary file to ASCII Hex code.

INTELHEX: Convert an ASCII Hex file to an Intel Hex format file.

APPNDHEX: Append (merge) a hex file to another hex file. The hex files may be either ASCII Hex or Intel Hex.

STRIPNTL: Convert an Intel Hex format file to straight ASCII Hex for faster file transfers.
